Meet Captain Rachel . . .
"I grew up on the Patuxent River near Solomons Island, Maryland. In 1998 I was offered a job working in the galley of the Elizabeth S. It didn't take Captain Mike Shaw long to figure out that I could catch a fish and clean it, but I wasn't very good at cooking it. He gave me the opportunity to work as a mate on the head boat, and my love of the water and passion for fishing became something I enjoyed sharing with others. After four years of working on the Elizabeth S and working part-time for various captains on the Patuxent and Potomac rivers, I began looking for a full-time job on a private charter boat.
In 2002, the late Captain Mike Gerek gave me the opportunity to work as a mate and the inspiration to pursue a Captain's License. After earning my U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License in 2003 and my Commercial Tidal Fishing License in 2006, I began running charters on the Sandra Marie. I am currently a teacher at Patuxent High School and I am happy to have my summers free to join Captain Phil Langley on the Chesapeake Charm!"
